Australian all-rounder Tim David has featured in 4 ODI matches, where he scored 47 runs and took 1 wicket while representing the men in yellow.
David made his way into the national side thanks to his powerful batting style and natural ability to hit big sixes with ease. Initially selected as a T20 prodigy, he was later given the finisher role in the ODI format, where he struggled for consistency, averaging just 10.7 in his four appearances.
Australia is currently in a transition phase. Their recent defeat to India in the ICC Champions Trophy semi-final has triggered a wave of high-profile retirements. First, Steve Smith announced his retirement on the same day as the loss. A few days later, Marcus Stoinis followed suit, and Glenn Maxwell soon retired from the ODI format as well.

Tim David Hints at Uncertain ODI Future Ahead
Now, ahead of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027, Tim David has hinted that his own future in the 50-over format is uncertain. Speaking recently, he admitted he doesn't see himself contributing much in ODIs going forward.
“Definitely having conversations in the background with my coaches, and people that I want to talk to about my game at the moment. I'm not too sure, to be honest. It's not the immediate plan. We've got such a busy year, to be honest, leading up to this T20 World Cup,” he told NDTV Sports.

David Shifts Focus to T20s, Rules Out List A Cricket for Now
David added that his focus is on the T20 bilateral series and the road to the 2026 T20 World Cup. He also confirmed that he won't be playing any List A games in the near future.
“The winter actually looks quite different for me this year. Previously, I would have been away for four or five months in a row over the winter playing competitions. And now we've got so many T20 series that there's not much time to think about much else. So we'll see how that develops. But, at the moment, no plans,” he said.

Tim David recently enjoyed success in franchise cricket, winning the trophy with Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Unfortunately, he suffered a hamstring injury right after the final, which forced him to miss MLC 2025. He is currently recovering and aiming to return for Australia’s 5-match T20I series against West Indies, starting July 21.
