Shubman Gill scored 269 and 161 runs in the two innings of the second Test at Edgbaston. Gill's knock helped India gain a lead of over 500 runs in the second Test.

Eventually, the Indian skipper declared their second innings on 427 runs for six wickets setting England a target of 608 runs.

Meanwhile, the Indian skipper surpassed Sunil Gavaskar to register the most runs by an Indian batter in a Test match. With his two knocks, Shubman Gill has now scored 430 runs in a Test match, surpassing Sunil Gavaskar's tally of 335 runs (124 & 221) against West Indies at Port of Spain in 1971. He has joined an elite list of batters to have scored a double century and a century in the same Test match. The other names include Australia's KD Walters, West Indies RG Lowe, Australia's Greg Chappell, England's Gooch, WI icon Lara, Sri Lanka's Sangakkara and Australia's Marnus Labuschagne.

Shubman Gill Just Behind Graham Gooch

He also surpassed Virat Kohli to become the Indian Test skipper with most runs in a Test match. Kohli scored  (243 and 50 runs) against Sri Lanka in 2017 in New Delhi. Gill also became just the third Asian batter to score 300 runs in a single Test match in SENA countries, surpassing 301 runs against Australia in Sydney in 2003-04 and Rahul Dravid's 305 runs against Australia at Adelaide in the same series.

Gill scored 430 runs in the Test match at Edgbaston making him sit second in the list of batters with most runs in a single Test. Only Graham Gooch ( 456 vs India) is above him. The players he surpassed are the likes of Brian Lara and Kumar Sangakkara among others.

England Need 536 Runs On Day 5

Chasing 608 runs to win, England lost three wickets in the final session of the day play. Zak Crawley (0 off 7 balls), Ben Duckett (25 runs off 15 balls) and Joe Root (6 runs off 16 balls) were the batters to fall. Harry Brook (15* runs off 15 balls) and Ollie Pope (24* runs off 44 balls) are unbeaten with England still trailing by 536 runs heading into the final day of the second Test.
