Afghanistan will take on Hong Kong in the opening match of the Asia Cup 2025 tournament on Tuesday, September 09. The Afghans are coming off a resounding loss in the finals of the tri-series involving Pakistan, & UAE on September 07. They were handed a thrashing of 75 runs by Pakistan. The Rashid Khan-led Afghanistan would be keen to bounce back and start their Continental Cup campaign on a winning note.
Meanwhile, Hong Kong would be keen to show their good progress by punching above their weight. Over the past two years, they have shown decent form against the likes of Oman, UAE, and Ireland. However, beating Afghanistan would be considered an upset, as they have made giant strides in the T20Is.

Sediqullah Atal showed good form in the tri-series, but the middle and lower order remains a spot of bother. If Hong Kong bowlers manage to strike early blows, then they can pose huge challenge for Afghans.
